Meet the Team
Founder and executive producer of HMP, Sam, is a Philadelphia native, history buff, and documentary film enthusiast. This is what inspired him in 2008 to launch the company after a long career in public finance, investment banking, and several bids for political office. For HMP Sam plays a central role in business development, research, co-writing, and co-producting.
As a producer, director, and post production specialist, Phil brings a background in multii-media design and marketing strategy. Phil has been editing videos and films for over 5 years and tries to bring a new approach and experience to each story and project. He recruits and manages the production and post production teams.
Senior writer at HMP, Nathaniel is an author and essayist, whose work explores the intersection of the contemporary city with the cities of the past and the future. If, as Nathaniel has written, a city is a negotiation of individual dreams, the story of Philadelphia is endlessly fascinating. Perfect for film. Nathaniel plays a central role in project development, research, and script-writing.
Kaye Wise Whitehead, Ph.D., is HMP's historical consultant and specializes in nineteenth century black history and black women’s archival history. She is an assistant professor at Loyola University MD in the Dept. of Communication, a three-time New York Emmy nominated documentary filmmaker, and a former senior television producer.
Patrick de Caumette
Patrick de Caumette is a critically acclaimed composer for the Media Arts, with a life time expertise in the fields of film scoring, sound design and audio post production. A recipient of the prestigious Berklee College of Music Faculty Award, Patrick is also a faculty member at The University of the Arts and at Temple University, where he lectures on composition, film score, sound design and music technology.
Janet Benton is a writer, editor, and teacher of writing with nearly three decades of experience. Her mission is to craft powerful communications and to give others the tools, awareness, and support they need to do the same. She holds a B.A. from Oberlin College and an M.F.A. in English from U. Mass. Amherst. Benton serves HMP as a script consultant.
Paul Van Haute
Paul Van Haute is a freelance director of photography with an eclectic resume that includes commercials, documentaries, television series, feature films, and corporate presentations. His 35 years of experience, his cinematic eye, and his interest in history make his input invaluable to our projects.
As one of HMP interns working on "webspots" Alaina is a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a Communication degree and currently a student at Academy of Art University studying for her Masters degree. Her interest is in writing inspirational fiction led into a desire to make inspirational film.
Will Field is a motion graphics artist and editor working in both the Philadelphia and New York area. Documentaries have always been his passion but he also designs graphics for advertisements. A graduate from Bard College with a B.A. in Film and Electronic Arts, Will has worked on several documentaries in the US and in Israel.
A graduate from King State college with a degree in film production, Nick is an offline and online editor for HMP. Nick has been working in narrative and documentary production and post since 2002.
Malcolm joined the HMP in January 2012. He is serving as Chairman of the Board, office manager, and head of security.
HMP was conceived and formed in 2008 by Sam Katz when he began developing a plan to produce a multi-part series on the history of Philadelphia. From that grew a company that has evolved into a full service production company with a focus on helping organizations with a rich history tell their stories through the powerful medium of film.
